Silver halide simulation

Developed,
not filtered.

Every preset applies the same color remap to every image. Argentum™ simulates actual film chemistry — the physics changes with your image, not against it.

The process

The development process

Every roll processed by Argentum™ passes through our silver halide simulation pipeline.

Choose Your Film

Every film stock has its own color science — the way its dye layers respond to light. We extracted the real chrominance from each stock and apply it in linear space, before development. The same physics, the same order as real film.

Argentum™

Our house film. Pure silver halide, no color bias.

Pro Neg

Gentle skin tones. Studio portrait standard.

Chrome

Muted, desaturated. Documentary cool.

Velvia

Vivid landscape. Saturated skies and greens.

More stocks added regularly. All derived from real film color science.

01

Scene Reading

Before anything touches your negative, we read the scene. Subject position, available light, highlight headroom, skin tone temperature. The chemistry that follows is calibrated to what your sensor actually captured.

02

Grain Intelligence

ISO-profiled noise reduction tuned to your camera’s specific sensor characteristics. Applied to the raw negative before development — the way it works in a real darkroom.

03

Optical Corrections

Distortion and chromatic aberration corrected using measured profiles for your specific camera and lens. Natural vignetting preserved — it draws the eye to your subject.

04

Silver Halide Development

Your negative enters the chemistry. Crystal growth, developer diffusion, analog shoulder compression — the same physics that made Portra look like Portra. Light reflecting through the emulsion produces natural halation around bright highlights, just like real film base.

05–08

Portrait Printer’s Eye

On by default

The judgment call a darkroom printer makes reading your negative — now running as physics.

Zone VI skin placement. Shoulder Hold™ highlight compression. Blackbody warmth correction. Blue spill removal. Face-aware dodging.
